This tiny fishing port, which is also a low key resort on the furthest tip of southwest Mallorca, has something very special in its ambience which is difficult to define. Known variously as Sant Elm, Sant Elmo and San Telmo this charming village is named after the patron saint of sailors, with good reason.

History and Culture of San Telmo
San Telmo was one of the points used by invaders to access the island of Mallorca and was used as a rallying point by King Jaume’s fleet in the 13th century during the reconquest of Mallorca from the Saracens.
It has also fallen prey to bandits and pirates, particularly when the island of Dragonera was occupied by the terrifying pirate ‘Red Beard’ also known as ‘Barbarossa’.
Today the only invaders are the modest numbers of tourists who use San Telmo as a base for exploring this beautiful part of the island, or the flurry of visitors during the summer months.
