Lloseta – not one of Mallorca’s best-known villages – may seem an unlikely place to find a restaurant that’s so good that you have to book months ahead if you want to eat there. Located in the village centre, Santi Taura looks deceptively ordinary from the outside, but the British ‘GQ’ magazine named it one of Mallorca’s top eight restaurants. Eat here and you’ll understand why.
The interior is contemporary, with a section at the rear bathed in natural light. Santi Taura is an artisan chef and one of several innovative young Mallorcan chefs who have turned the island’s traditional cuisine into something exciting, modern and sophisticated.
For lunch and dinner, Santi offers a weekly-changing tasting menu of three starters, fish, meat and dessert courses, with the option of an additional course of cheese. For the quality of the cuisine, the value is exceptional.
Local, seasonal produce provides the foundations of this chef’s creative contemporary cuisine. The restaurant serves Santi’s own-brand virgin olive oil (bottles for sale to take home) and delicious bread made from the Mallorcan ‘xeixa’ wheat variety. The affable chef comes to greet diners and explain the menu.
Reservations made through the website aren’t firm until confirmed by the restaurant.
Michelin awarded Santi Taura a Bib Gourmand – their award for ‘best quality-price relationship’ – for 2017.
