It’s barbecue season and we’re ‘cooking up a storm’ for guests at our pool party. The kids are having soooo much fun summersaulting into the cool blue water… (page 104). Refreshing watermelon smoothies, chargrilled corn-on-the-cob, skewered chicken and, of course, mouth-watering homemade hamburgers are popular choices on the barbecue menu. We are always keen to meet people with interesting stories to tell and that is certainly the case in our real life story on page 130. It was love at first sight for Mallorcan-born composer, Joan Valent, and his Mexican wife, Mariana Salinas, who tell us about their new life on the island over a relaxed lunch in their beautiful home.
We also meet the British couple behind the latest gin sensation Palma Gin, as well as visiting the Pollença winery of former Iberostar executive, José Antonio González. We give our verdict on two waterfront restaurants: Flor de Sal in Camp de Mar, where chef Jonay Hernández is building quite a reputation for his creative cooking. The other is Palma’s newest hotspot, Arallo, offering inventive Galician fusion cuisine and the 49 Steps sunset lounge – a ‘must-visit’ for sundowners.
Environment protection is a topic close to our hearts. In this edition Leon Beckenham interviews conservationist Ben Goldsmith to learn about how his innovative funding organisation is helping support environmental projects and initiatives across Mallorca.
