Hotel industry experts, tourism professionals, chefs and restaurateurs gather on the 15th of May at the Escuela de Hosteleria in the University of the Balearic Islands for the first edition of the ‘Forum of Tourism and Gastronomy’ (Foro de Turismo y Gastronomía).
The Forum includes a series of debates and presentations on how gastronomy can help promote tourism on the island and vice versa. Topics to be discussed include how Tourism and Gastronomy complement one another; the role chefs have to play in promoting different destinations and how to make the Balearics a ‘gastronomic destination’ of choice. The debates will be followed by show-cookings and wine tastings in the evening. The day is open to the general public but only by prior registration.
Organised by the local Sports & Tourism industry in collaboration with the Hotel Management School at the Balearic University, the forum aims to promote and spread awareness about local gastronomy and produce, and to create a new tourism option which focuses on the many great restaurants, quality products, specialties and chefs the Balearic Islands have to offer.
To complement the debates going on at the university a selection of the city of Palma’s best restaurants will be offering special menus during the whole of this week (from the 14th to the 20th of May) at special prices of either 15 or 25€.
A total of 35 different Palma restaurants will be taking part and each offers their own set menu.
