La Residencia Hotel, in the beautiful village of Deià on Mallorca, offers an afternoon tea with a Mallorcan twist.
The afternoon tea served at the hotel is already recognised as one of best on the island, but now they also serve the traditional local equivalent.
For many centuries Spain’s traditions and festivities have been marked by religion. Christenings and communions were a large family affair and on the island of Mallorca the ceremony was followed by a visit to a cafeteria where all would partake in thick hot chocolate accompanied by sweet ‘ensaïmadas’, ‘cocas de patata’ and ‘cuartos’, with a glass of sparkling Cava for the adults.
In modern times celebrations have altered and festivities have become more elaborate, but sometimes it is good to ‘bring back the old’.
Belmond La Residencia is recovering the true values of local tradition and offering afternoon hot chocolate with local confectionery. Adults can still wash it down with ice cold Cava!
Highly recommended as a very special afternoon treat.
