Legend says that Capdepera’s patron saint, Esperanza the Virgin, saved the population from a pirate attack and is therefore revered in this part of the island. It is said that Esperanza was able to bring down a mysterious fog to protect the town from a swashbuckling invasion.
This annual fiesta includes a popular procession in which the image of the Virgin is carried to the Castle of Capdepera from the church as well as an extensive programme of cultural activities for all the family. Festivities start at 18.00 h with the procession lasting approximately an hour before the music and celebration takes place in the castle walls.
A solemn mass takes place the following day in the church at 11.00 h to bring the festival to a close.
