Mallorca has around 70 wineries (bodegas) and in recent years many of the grape growers have opened their doors to visitors for tours and tastings. A well-publicised wine route is the Binissalem DO region encompassing the island’s central towns of Santa Maria del Camí, Consell, Binissalem, Sencelles and Santa Eugenia.
These are the fourteen wineries participating in the wine route promoted under the umbrella of the DO Binissalem:
José Luis Ferrer
Another family-run bodega renowned for quality wines, made from local Mantonegro, Callet and Moll grapes. In 2014 their Crianza 2011 won a gold medal at the Berliner Wein Trophy, silver at Vinalies (Paris) and at the Premium Select Wine Challenge. At Spain’s Bacchus 2010 International Wine Competition, their Crianza 2007 won gold and Reserva 2004, Veritas Dolc 2009, and Veritas Blanc 2009 all won silver.

Bodegas Antonio Nadal
This bodega was established in 1968 and produces wines exclusively from grapes grown on their 27 hectares of vineyards. Bodegas Nadal was the first producer to obtain the DO Binissalem, in 1989. Since 2000, Magdalena Nadal Estela has been at the helm.

Home of the lively September grape harvest celebrations, Binissalem is considered Mallorca’s wine capital. In the town itself, Vins Nadal produces Albaflor wines from Merlot, Cabernet and Syrah grapes. Founded in 1932, the business has passed through generations of the same family. The winery hosts a summer series of concerts.

Tianna Negre’s environmentally-aware winery has rooftop solar panels and reuses water for irrigation. The architect-designed stone building blends harmoniously into its surroundings. Founded in 2007, when an old family vineyard was restored to life, it produces Ses Nines and Randemar red, white and rose wines.

Its modern premises were built in 1998, but the bodega has a 150-year family heritage, cultivating vines in Biniali since 1865. Their widely exported quality wines are often award-winners. Celler Sebastia Pastor

Jaume de Puntiró
Also in town is the winery Jaume de Puntiro, which cultivates its vines organically. A certified artisanal firm and master vintner, they use native as well as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot and Muscatel grape varieties. They work in harmony with the environment, and along with the latest technological advances, produce high quality wines.

Youthful enthusiasm is the driving force behind Celler Ramanya. Founded in 2003, by a group of young people interested in wine- making, this small artisanal winery uses latest technology and high quality barrels. Santa Eugenia is the location of Vinya Taujana which, although established only in 2001 by the Crespi family, is run by third-generation artisanal winemakers. Their Torrent Fals Criança 2011 won silver award in the 2013 Bacchus competition.

Celler Can Ramis
In the 19th century, Sencelles was one of Mallorca’s largest producers of wines and brandy, and the hamlet of Biniali alone had 43 wineries! Founded in 1870, Celler Can Ramis has its roots in those heady days. Today, it’s run by Pere Antoni Llabres Cirer and produces several branded wines, from Manto Negro, Callet and Syrah grapes.
Celler Ca Sa Padrina
Celler Ca Sa Padrina was founded in 1999 to revive and improve upon the traditional wines of Mallorca, using grapes from their eight hectares of vineyards. They produce the highly aromatic, elegant Mantonegro González-Suner red and Mollet González- Suner white.

If you’ve eaten at Jaume Bennassar’s Orient Restaurant, you’ll be familiar with his wines, produced in Biniali to complement the menu’s suckling pig and other specialities.
