During the third week of June, on the pristine grass courts of the Santa Ponsa Tennis Club, Mallorca becomes the world capital of women’s tennis.
Every year many of the world’s top female players choose to compete at the Mallorca Open – offering perfect conditions as a warm-up for Wimbledon, as well as Mallorca’s welcoming atmosphere. Together with the tournament’s excellent organisation, the players get to enjoy their free time spent on the magical island.
Since its inception Mallorca Open has been founded on the values of equality and promotion of women’s sport. As part of this, this month also saw the gathering of the First Forum of Women in Sport, where personalities of sport, culture and society demonstrated the strong presence that women can have in any field.
In this its fourth year, the tournament will feature the former world number one players Angelique Kerber and Victoria Azarenka. Kerber, the current Wimbledon women’s champion, comes to Mallorca to show why she considered one of the best tennis players in the world. They will be joined by a cast of tennis stars such as Anastasija Sevastova, Belinda Bencic, Caroline Garcia or Elise Mertens. Since its second year, the tournament has been directed by Toni Nadal, uncle and former coach of Rafa Nadal.
In addition to enjoying the best tennis in the world, there are many parallel activities organised at the Santa Ponsa Tennis Club together with top-class facilities that bring together thousands of people for a great day out. The tournament also offers a childcare service for visitors wanting to enjoy the tournament while their little ones are entertained – so an unforgettable experience that the whole family can enjoy.
